Getting Started
To get started all you have to do is click the Plus Sign tool bar button to add a new record and start entering information into the appropriate text boxes. It’s that simple, but I recommend you read this help file thoroughly before you start so that you have a good understanding of how to use the application.
Main Window
In the main window you will see everything you need to start entering the necessary information for your collection. There are text boxes with labels and a tool bar with button controls. Only text boxes with the asterisk mark (*) are required. Below is a definition of the text boxes:
- Mfg / Importer – Enter the name of the manufacturer and/or importer in this box.
- Model – Enter the model of firearm in this box.
- Gauge / Caliber – Enter the gauge and/or caliber in this box.
- Serial Number – Enter the serial number and/or importer number here.
- Action Type – Enter the type of action in this box (Ex. Bolt, Semi-Auto, etc.).
- Firearm Type – Enter the type of firearm in this box (Ex. Rifle, Shotgun, etc.).
- Stock Type – Enter the type of stock in this box.
- Finish Type – Enter the type of finish on the firearm in this box.
- Sights Type – Enter the type of sights mounted on the firearm in this box.
- Year of Manufacture – Enter the year the firearm was manufactured, if known.
- Purchase Price – Enter what was paid for the firearm in this box.
- Estimated Value – Enter the estimated value in this box.
- Sold To – Enter the name of the person to whom you sold the firearm in this box.
- Date Sold – Enter the date of sale in this box.
- ID Number – Enter the persons ID number to whom you sold the firearm in this box.
- Distinguishing Marks – Enter any other identifying information about the firearm in this box.
- Notes – General notes are entered in this box.
- Picture - This is where you can load a picture of your firearm for the record. Formats supported are BMP and JPG.
Tool Bar
The Tool bar possesses all of the necessary controls for managing your information. The following is a definition of the Tool bar:
- First Record – Brings you to the first record.
- Previous Record – Brings you to the previous record.
- Current Record – Shows the position of the current record.
- Next Record – Brings you to the next record.
- Last Record – Brings you to the last record.
- Add Record – Adds a new empty record for information to be entered.
- Delete Record – Deletes the current record being viewed.
- Save Record – Saves all records to the database.
- About – Shows information about the application.
- Help – Shows this help window.
- Show List – Loads the search / list view window.
Pop up Help
If you move the mouse cursor over the text boxes a pop up will show you brief help text.
List Window
The search window can be accessed by clicking on the Show List button in the main window tool bar. The List Window can be used to review the entire database and search for a firearm by serial number.
